Comments:

• I didnt participate in the last 10 lectures since it wasnt neccesary to get a high score on the cases. Need an exam or closer link to motivate students to participate. Too bad because I really liked Simonov. Hes one of the most dedicated teachers Ive met at SSE. Fantastic homepage with links and information. To make the course even better I would have a small exam instead of hand-in questions. Computer exercise great. To sum up, Andrei was superb but I need a motivator to use 2h a day to listen to lectures. A small exam would do that.
• The workload was perhaps very high, but it was worth it since one learned a lot during the cases and assignments.I am very satisfied with the education form which resulted in hands-on experience. I find that too rare at SSE.
• It was a good course with a very engaged teacher!
• some questions in case studies and computer assignment could have been clearer.
• Andrei should be less "aggressive" during classes. It is not very encouraging and it does not make you want to participate in discussions when knowing that if you are not completely right you will be run over.
• The best homepage for any course. Information that was not only taken from the book but also from other sources, that gives higher level of overall understanding.
  There should be more advanced, or say more practical course in Investment management so that one may better understand how it works in the real world.
• Andrei Simonov showed a dedication which I have never seen before at the SSE. He used the discussion group in a perfect way. I think this was what it was made to be used for. I created an active discussion and gave quick answers to all problems. It was very interesting to trade through Stocktrak. This project is not finished yet, but well see. Perhaps more points should have been given for all other exercises and less for the investment project. More information and guidelines should have been given before the investment project started. It took too much time too write the reports for the problem sets. I would have liked to get back the first problem set before the second was due.
• Very good course!
• It was NOT an advantage to start work on the cases early! A lot of "hints" came out near to the dead lines.
• The class was very good, but the organization was a little confusing. Details on how the cases would be graded was misleading and was represented in scores.
• Andrei var mycket kunnig och intresserad, dock borde kursadministrationen vara lite bättre eftersom kursupplägget för vissa handelsstudenter var lite väl komplicerat. Det är intressnat att notera hur vissa elevre blev förvirrade över att man inte behövde göra alla case utan att man skulle välja.
• Mr Simonov has done a great job, but I was quite unhappy with the other two guy (inflexibility, accessibility)
• The idea of not having a final exam is basically good. However, the relative grading system, where the worst performing 20% are ounished, was confusing. It is clare that students engage in competing with each other when this system is applied. On the one hand, it was said that you shouldnt spend more thabn 1-2 days on each case, but if you follow that recommendation you will surely get a bad grade sine other groups are much more ambitious, and there must always be someone in the lowest percentile.
  In other courses, fixed limits for each grade are set up in the beginning of the course, normally 100 out of 200 for G, 130-140 for MBG and 160-170 for B. I will probably get a total grade of 150-160 in this course (if i perform similarily on the last project as I have so far). This is under average, so I am not even sure to pass, while as in any other course I would be sure to have a MBG.
• As mentioned in person, I feel that the case portion of this course was not utilized effectively. The actual case idea is excellent, as was the followup discussion, however the evaluation method encouraged regurgitation over quality, creative answers. Also, there is a big discrepancy between the length of time that the assignments take, and the length of time that the professor intends for them to take. This is partially due to the evaluation method, and miscommunication of expectations.
• The overall quality of the course is high but there seems to be not much room for independent thinking.
  The marks awarded for each assignment were given with relative speed and efficiency.

• I think that trading game was interesting but we need help to do it. Maybe next time, it would be more usefull if we had some feedback from your phd students to give us the good tools for a day to day investment management.

• Sometimes it seemed to be to less time to understand all the theory in the background. Maybe it makes sense to stretch the course a little bit more. But anyway, I have learned a lot.
• I would prefer to have a written exam instead of cases/project. I strongly believe that students get better understanding of overall context and different theories with a more individual touch of the course.
• Maybe an examination (20-30% of the grade) would be useful. E.g. instead of Problem Sets.
• The Professor uses "Minus System" in grading cases, as opposed to more reasonable "Cumulative Reward System". When students approach cases differently and turn out to be wrong, we got penalized. But when its not wrong, regardless how much efforts or how creative we are, we are just called "Nice" - no rewards whatsoever!! For one thing, especially in Finance and in case analysis, there are seldom right or wrong answers - as Finance is actually a quite subjective subject.
  Im still confused on how actually to approach the case. In the guide question list we are told not to answer the questions one by one, but to use it to prime our analysis. But when we did not exactly answer them and used different approach - again we got penalized. It seems that the professor encourages us to think ALIKE, which is unfortunately not applicable in the real world. Even great minds dont think alike!!!
• The discussion group worked very well during the course.
• Other than the individual assignments, most cases were useful. It would be nice if each group is to attempt only 1/2 cases and allowed to prepare the other cases on their own initiative. All cases should be discussed in class to the benefit of everyone.
